Faster, Cheaper, Elsewhere?AI, China and the Future of Drug Development

Tuesday 17 November 2026London Life Sciences Week
8:00 to 9:30Breakfast from 8:00
The ConduitCovent Garden, London

An off-the-record breakfast for pharma, biotech, CRO and CDMO leaders on how AI and China are reshaping who discovers, develops and makes the next generation of medicines. One focused hour, a small table of peers, and a conversation that stays in the room.

The conversation nobody has on a panel

Speed and cost are being won in new ways, but ownership may be the price. Over breakfast, a small group of senior leaders will talk honestly about what that trade looks like from where they sit. No slides, no sales pitch, just a facilitated discussion with peers who face the same decisions.

AI in drug development

Where AI is genuinely accelerating the work, what it is costing in IP and control, and who owns the value when your data makes someone else's model smarter.

China in early clinical development

What is really happening in early-phase work, why sponsors are going there, and the risks and downstream impacts for pipelines, partners and supply chains.

What's said here stays here

The session runs under the Chatham House Rule. You are free to use what you hear, but not to say who said it.

No recording

We won't record the session, and nobody else will be allowed to.

No name tags

Just a quick round of names and companies at the table, and that’s where they stay.

Nothing attributed

Hot takes are welcome. They won't follow you out of the room.

Lori Ellis

Your host, Lori Ellis

Host of Open Door Salon, former Head of Insights at BioSpace

Lori has spent over a decade getting senior executives to have the conversations that matter, on stage, on mic and on the record. This one is off the record.

She hosts Open Door Salon, a media platform breaking down the silos between life sciences, HCPs, payors and patients. At BioSpace she built the insights department from scratch and launched two podcasts that went from zero to more than 45,000 downloads in two years. Before that, she was Managing Editor at Informa Pharma Intelligence. Her work focuses on the economic climate, women's health, and how technology, especially AI, is reshaping the pharmaceutical industry.

She has won a few awards along the way: Muse Creative, LIT, Vega, Adobe and others. Clients who have won after working with her? She'll never name them. Call it super-connecting, power brokering or magical mystical elf mischief-making. She's here to open doors, and she would much rather hear your hot take than your talking points.
